Are you struggling to find your Professional Purpose?

I’ve been on a 16-year journey through the ever-evolving landscape of the technology world, and I’ve grappled with the question: Is this truly where I belong? Despite my expertise and experience, I’ve realised that something needs to be fixed. It wasn’t until I embarked on a journey of self-discovery with the help of personal SWOT analysis and psychometric assessments that I unearthed a profound revelation: my true calling lies not in the realm of technology but in the dynamic world of career coaching.

As I delved into the process, I discovered a wealth of information about myself that I hadn’t fully appreciated before. I uncovered strengths I had taken for granted, weaknesses I had been reluctant to acknowledge, opportunities I had overlooked, and threats I had underestimated. Armed with these insights, I could make more informed decisions about my career path, set achievable goals, and chart a course for success.

Why You Should Do a Personal SWOT Analysis

  • Gain clarity: A Personal SWOT Analysis provides a structured framework for clarifying your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, helping you make more informed decisions about your career path. Through this process, I experienced a profound clarity about my professional journey. Despite spending 16 years in the technology field, I never truly enjoyed my work. It became evident that my natural abilities aligned more closely with teaching, helping others, and entrepreneurship. This realisation, brought to light through SWOT analysis, gave me a clear direction and a renewed sense of purpose in my career pursuits.
  • Identify Opportunities: Identifying your strengths and opportunities is critical to unlocking hidden potential and maximising your advantages. For instance, during my self-assessment journey, I explored career options beyond the technology sector and discovered a potential fit in Career Coaching. Further research revealed a staggering statistic: only 1 lakh professional career counsellors are available to serve a student market of 315 million individuals[i]. This revelation underscored a significant opportunity to contribute to the field, bolstering my confidence in pursuing this path.
  • Address Weaknesses: We all have areas where we can improve, and SWOT analysis process can help illuminate these areas for growth. During my SWOT analysis, I discovered a gap in my understanding of the skills needed to excel as a Career Coach. Recognising this as a weakness, I knew that addressing it was crucial to my professional development. Committed to pursuing a career in coaching, I took proactive steps to bridge this gap by enrolling in a formal certification course. This comprehensive program gave me the necessary knowledge and tools to assess individuals’ abilities and guide them towards fulfilling career paths.
  • Navigate Challenges: In today’s competitive job market, awareness of the threats and challenges that may impact your career trajectory is essential. During my SWOT analysis, I recognised the danger posed by the rapidly changing career ecosystem, where new career paths emerged almost daily. To address this challenge, I sought out a solution that would enable me to stay abreast of the evolving landscape. After evaluating several platforms, I decided to leverage Mindler, a technology platform that provided comprehensive insights into emerging career options. This decision empowered me to adapt to the dynamic job market confidently.

The Role of Psychometric Analysis

In tandem with the personal SWOT analysis, I embarked on a journey of psychometric exploration—a voyage into the depths of my personality, passion, orientation style, aptitude, and emotional quotient. I gained a deeper understanding of myself through assessments and evaluations—my values, motivations, and aspirations. This comprehensive analysis provided valuable insights that complemented the findings of my SWOT analysis, enabling me to make more informed decisions about my career path and personal development.

The Epiphany: Career Coaching Beckons

Armed with the insights gleaned from personal SWOT analysis and psychometric assessments, I realised that my true passion lay not in the technology world but in the transformative power of career coaching. This calling resonated with my innate strengths—empathy, communication, and a genuine desire to help others unlock their full potential.
